Don't Forget The Bush You Dried Your Shirt On
Over the past two centuries close to ten million people have departed Ireland, including myself. This series is a reflection on the importance of homeland and its impact on identity. As we unravel the ties that bind, we are left with the fear of disconnection and loss of one’s homeland. There is an innate yearning within us to preserve a sense of ‘home’ in physical and emotional terms. Memories of Ireland are clouded by a confabulated subconscious view of rural living, selectively forgetting my previous life which was lonely and isolated. Exploring inner conflicts and complex relationships with home invites viewers to question the ephemeral nature of homeland, thereby gaining insight into feelings of disconnection, detachment and ostracization.
Sadhbh Lynam is an Irish contemporary visual artist whose work is rooted in Documentary Photography. The work frequently addresses overlooked emotional social issues such as traumatic experiences, mental health, grief, emotions and photography as catharsis. Sadhbh’s work comes from an introspective viewpoint which mainly focuses on psychology, anguish, sentimentality, and cultural identity; how this is expressed visually through the metaphorical in internal and external situations which relate within society.
