Down by the Sea, Steve Turner (Pre-order)

Description

'Down by the Sea' is the culmination of a photographic project Steve Turner began in 2020, an extended encounter with Ireland’s coastline and its communities.

Opening with the first light of sunrise over Killiney Bay, the book follows the sea’s fickle moods through the course of the day: calm and turbulent, playful and threatening, communal and solitary, familiar and strange.

Across these images, Steve explores not only the many faces of the sea, but the different ways a photographer might respond to them-changing approach, composition and technique according to what the moment demands.

Rather than offering a single, fixed vision of the coast, 'Down by the Sea' embraces its ever-changing energy. The result is a generous and deeply human portrait of Ireland’s restless coastline in constant flux, and of the people who return to it again and again.

Introduction by Brendan Mac Evilly.
