SLOW | CREATION | QUIET | ROOTS | LISTENING, Liat Schurmann, Luke Mollan, Jan von Hugo (Signed)

Description

Mount Venus Nursery is multiple gold-medal winning nursery known across Ireland and beyond for its plants and for its ethos, growing hardy perennials outside in the Dublin Mountains. 2025 marks 25 years of Mount Venus Nursery, as well as a change of location to an old granite sand quarry hidden in a nearby wooded hollow in the South Dublin hills.

The location of the nursery, in the demesne of Tibradden, is integral to how we grow plants, and SLOW | CREATION | QUIET | ROOTS | LISTENING seeks to capture the relationship between the landscape and the nursery, and how one informs the other. It is not an autobiography, nor a practical gardening book in the traditional sense. The book is a philosophical reflection on how, why, and where we grow plants. Through words and photographs, the book seeks to capture the spirit of Tibradden, and what we do here, but also to place the reader at the heart of their own little slice of land, to think about plants from the plant’s perspective, and to become a better gardener by asking less and accepting more. To consider first the landscape. Then the plants. And then our own demands, is to turn the traditional gardening narrative on its head.

SLOW | CREATION | QUIET | ROOTS | LISTENING is a book of quiet revolution against the age of instant gratification, and one that might change how you see the world, as well as your garden.
