Chris Killip (1946-2020) is one of the most influential British photographers of his generation. He is best known for his black and white images of people and places, especially in the North East of England in the 1970s and 1980s. This volume focuses on his remarkable Seacoal series, documenting a community at Lynemouth, where, as he put it, 'the Middle Ages and the twentieth century intertwined'. The Tate Photography Series is a celebration of photography by artists in the Tate collection, presenting the work of some of the most significant photographers in the world today. Each book features a specially selected sequence of images alongside an introduction and a conversation with or about each photographer's practice. The unifying theme for this second group of titles in the series is Ecology and Environment.
