The Cusp of July, Betsy Bailie

Description

'The Cusp of July' is a postcard-sized photobook, with writing and photography stitched together. It explores nostalgia, melancholy and longing in the summer months.

This book takes place over 5 summers, from 2016 to 2020. It tells the story of friendship, loneliness, yearning, first love and heartache. Dreaming of days yet to come but at the same time feeling like you’re running out of time.

"I picked photos from my teenage/young adult years that express the freedom and wildness in the summers between school and university years. The long and motionless summers before we ended up getting jobs and everything changed. There were summers of teenage angst and heartache or feeling so in love everything around you looked beautiful enough to capture. We were always immersed in live music and dancing, but there were also moments in our bedrooms alone fantasising about the future and the people we thought we’d become." (Words by Betsy Bailie)
