Collection: Akihiko Okamura Books - Photo Museum Ireland

Akihiko Okamura is celebrated for his deeply human and visually compelling photographs made in Ireland during the late 1960s and early years of the Troubles. Working with remarkable sensitivity and empathy, Okamura documented everyday life alongside moments of social and political tension, creating an extraordinary record of a complex period in Irish history.

At Photo Museum Ireland we stock two key titles by Okamura: the bestselling and award-winning The Memories of Others, and What Kind of Era Are We Living In Now? Together, these publications offer an intimate and nuanced portrait of Ireland through the eyes of an outsider who became deeply connected to the people and communities he photographed.

Alongside the books, we also stock exhibition posters, prints, and postcards produced in conjunction with The Memories of Others exhibition, featuring some of Okamura’s most iconic and moving images.

Every purchase supports the ongoing work of Photo Museum Ireland, Ireland’s national centre for contemporary photography, supporting photographers and photographic practice since 1978.
