Henri Cartier-Bresson gave photography its defining idea. The decisive moment - the instant when form, meaning and feeling align in a single frame - has shaped how photographers have thought about their work ever since. A co-founder of Magnum Photos, his lens chronicled the decisive moments of the twentieth century: Chinese communist victories, the Spanish Civil War, the Liberation of Paris, and unparalleled portraits of Camus, Sartre and Faulkner.

PMI holds one of the most complete Cartier-Bresson collections available in Ireland. The Decisive Moment, his 1952 masterwork, is considered a bible for photographers and is available here in the Fondation HCB reissue. The Europeans, published three years later, composes a vibrant portrait of a continent in reconstruction - from the revellers of Bastille Day to the dockworkers of Hamburg. Also in stock: a Photofile edition, the Pierre Assouline biography drawing on years of personal conversations with the photographer, and a further monograph.
